HOT MOMENT: Kansas City Chiefs Make Subtle Gesture to Taylor Swift in New Photo
The Kansas City Chiefs included a subtle nod to Taylor Swift in their latest social media post.
The football team shared a photo of its four Superbowl trophies on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday night.
“We been on a winning streak…” the team wrote alongside the image, adding a winking-face emoji.
The post went viral, receiving over 629,000 views. The caption appears to be a reference to Taylor Swift’s song “The Alchemy,” which is rumored to be about Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce.
“So when I touch down/Call the amateurs and cut ’em from the team/Ditch the clowns, get the crown/Baby, I’m the one to beat/’Cause the sign on your heart/Said it’s still reserved for me/Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?” read the lyrics. “These blokes warm the benches/We’ve been on a winning streak.”
Newsweek has reached out to Taylor Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs for comment via email.
“OH MY GOD THE CHIEFS ARE TAYVIS NATIONING ON MAIN,” commented X user @peachycharm.
“Who are we to fight the alchemy???” wrote Karen.
“I love whatever girly pop is running ur social media,” joked @Victori10917906.
“The Chiefs posting Taylor Swift lyrics to celebrate their many Super Bowl wins because she’s dating Travis Kelce??” said Paige. “Did I go to sleep in 2014 and dream all of this up myself?”
The 34-year-old singer began dating the football star in the summer of 2023. The pair went public with their relationship in September, when Swift showed up to watch the Chiefs vs the Chicago Bears at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.
The Grammy winner was a regular fixture during football season and even traveled from Japan—where she was performing as part of her record-breaking Eras tour—to watch the Chiefs take home the Super Bowl in February.
Swift released her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, on Friday April 19, with fans quickly scouring the double-LP for Easter eggs relating to the pop star’s love life.
Along with claiming to spot references to Swift’s exes—including The 1975 frontman Matty Healy and British actor Joe Alwyn—Swifties also suspected a few tracks focus on the pop star’s new love.
In “The Alchemy,” Swift sings about touchdowns, trophies and winning streaks. However, fans also wondered if the song name referred to Kelce’s first (but failed) attempt to grab Swift’s attention.
“Alchemy is about something you thought was gold but it’s really not and it has to do with metals,” X user Talia wrote in February, following the release of TTPD’s tracklist.
“Taylor called Travis’ gesture on his podcast ‘metal as hell’ and i think she’ll write about what love being golden actually feels like once you get out of the alchemy.”
During a July episode of The New Heights podcast—which Kelce co-hosts with brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce—the Chiefs’ star confessed to having a crush on Swift.
He even showed up to a Kansas City concert to give her his number but was gutted to find that the “Blank Space” singer wasn’t doing meet-and-greets.
After hearing about Kelce’s failed romantic gesture, Swift reached out to him herself.
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift during her cover interview with Time magazine, after she was named 2023’s Person of the Year.
Swifties also believe that the pop icon referenced Jason Kelce on TTPD. “The Alchemy” includes the lyric “shirts off,” which many fans believe is a callback to the NFL star’s legendary shirtless moment during the Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills game in January.
Cheering on his brother’s team from a VIP box in Highmark Stadium, New York, Jason Kelce ripped his shirt off, spending the remainder of the game swigging beer half-naked while wearing a woolly Chiefs’ hat.
