Kansas City Chiefs star teases ‘unfinished business’ as Travis Kelce hails announcement
Kansas City Chiefs’ star, Drue Tranquill, has signed a new three-year deal with the team. He announced the news by hinting that he has unfinished business at Arrowhead Stadium.
Tranquill, 28, was one of the unsung heroes in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory and played in all four post-season games on the way to winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The former Los Angeles Chargers player had a memorable first season with the Missouri team with 16 outings in the regular season.
Eight of those games in question were starts as Tranquill made 78 tackles and 4.5 sacks, with these numbers representing the fifth-best performance from any KC player in 2023. Now, the Chiefs’ bosses have rewarded his efforts with a £14.78 million contract, with £10.11 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.
The last season was the most successful of Tranquill’s career so far and his appearance in KC’s Super Bowl win last month earned him his first ring. During his time with previous employers, the Chargers, he played in just one post-season game, which was a Wild Card round loss in 2022.
Tranquill was clearly over the moon to be extending his stay with the Chiefs and he even shared the news himself on X. Marking a milestone, he put up a photo with Travis Kelce from their Super Bowl party at Allegiant Stadium in February and wrote: “Unfinished business.”
The announcement seemingly went down well with Chiefs fans too, who offered their own congratulations to the linebacker. Taking to social media in their droves, his devoted followers said: “Congrats! Glad y’all were able to agree on an extension,” and “Glad to have you in KC for the next three.”
Another supporter was thrilled and told him “Welcome back champ,” while another big Chiefs fan said: “Glad to have you back! Love your brand of football sir.”
