This year is going to be a packed season for the women’s professional basketball league. And we do not mean just the sold-out arenas and jerseys. With the All-Star weekend, Commissioner’s Cup, and the Olympics, fans can sit long for the rollercoaster ride. And this journey will begin on May 14, 2024. The opening games will feature eight teams, including the reigning champions Las Vegas Aces, the finalists New York Liberty, and fan favorite Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever.
The 28th season will again give the fans an opportunity to watch their favorites play more with the 40-game format. Although it is an Olympic year, the Commissioner’s Cup will take place. Cathy Engelbert declared that the dates for the event will be from June 1 to 13. Talking about the 2-week span this year, Engelbert said, “The newly designed, concentrated structure for this in-season tournament adds an increased sense of urgency and excitement as we place a particular spotlight on Eastern and Western Conference Commissioner’s Cup play in a two-week window near the tip-off of our regular season.”
Moreover, the best performer during the Cup tournament will host the Championship game. The date for the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship is June 25, 2024. The in-season tournament will feature each team playing five games against their in-conference rivals. Further, as always, these games too will be a part of the regular season conference play.
